Shenandoah Community Health Announces Transition in Partnership with Morgan County Starting Points

Martinsburg, WV – The Shenandoah Community Health Board of Directors has announced a planned transition in its partnership with Morgan County Starting Points, a local non-profit family resource center serving residents of Morgan County, WV.

“For over two decades, SCH has enjoyed a rewarding collaboration with Starting Points,” said Mike Hassing, the CEO of Shenandoah Community Health. “We’ve had the privilege of witnessing their growth, including the recent opening of their new Family Resource Center in Paw Paw.”

“This transition allows SCH to streamline operations and focus on its core mission,” continued Mr. Hassing. “However, it also presents significant opportunities for Starting Points.”

Morgan County Starting Points, now in its 25th year of strengthening families in Morgan County, is preparing to transition the governance of its agency into an independent non-profit.

Starting Points boasts strong leadership and an active advisory board. With an increased annual grant of $250,000 from West Virginia’s Family Support Centers, they are well-positioned for continued growth and independence.

Audrey Morris, Executive Director of Morgan County Starting Points, expressed her agency’s gratitude for the immense help and expertise Shenandoah Community Health has provided to Starting Points over the last 23 years as both the health organization and Starting Points continued to expand and serve more community members.

The financial and organizational transition will be completed by March 31, 2025, ensuring a smooth handover. Shenandoah Community Health remains committed to Starting Points’ mission and is confident in their future success.

Starting Point’s Executive Committee has begun transition planning to start the process of transforming the Morgan County agency into an independent 501-c-3 with the capabilities to manage ongoing grant support from numerous funders and continue to grow the successful programming in our communities to support and strengthen families.

“We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” Mr. Hassing concluded. “We have no doubt Starting Points will continue to thrive and provide the same vital services to our community they have been providing.”

“The guidance and support from Shenandoah have been invaluable. Who knew 23 years ago that Starting Points would grow to this state of programming, staffing, and financial stability. The entire Starting Points organization is excited to make the move on our own and become an even more viable member of the community,” said Morris.

“Starting Points program and our team have been so blessed by long standing support of the community with an outpouring of time, talents, and financial support. Their steady and valuable contributions to our mission have aided us in identifying and meeting evolving needs through expanded programming,” Morris said.
